Aspects

The people of Numina III come in all sorts of different colors, shapes, sizes, genders, and Aspects. Everyone is born exhibiting at least one Aspect but may have more than one. Your Aspect is an outward presentation of your inner self and reflects some sort of connection to the forces of the universe.

Your Aspect may be the same Aspect as one of your parents, or come from a distant ancestor, or you may have a totally different Aspect than others in your family. Aspect is not genetic or inherited, though some families have a long history of exhibiting a specific Aspect. Likewise, you may learn of a specific community, city, or country with a predominance of certain Aspects. Note that while these groups may exist, there is no set rule that Aspects must appear in any fixed frequency or location.

There are no labels for people based on any of these characteristics, save for literal descriptions:

There is a group of people with white hair at the door.

or

Do you see those two Celestial Aspected walking down by the lake?

The people of the world do not make up labels to classify groups of Aspected as a subset of people; each Aspected is a unique person.

As people exhibit one or more Aspects, the rational people of the world recognize that discrimination against an individual based on their Aspect is wrong. Individuals or cultures who do discriminate against someone based on their Aspect are considered villainous and treated as such.

Every character can (and must) have at least one Aspect. Characters may have up to two Aspects. Characters with the Aspected Expression may purchase an additional aspect.

You have the “[X] Aspect” trait, and are affected by skills which target “[X] Aspect”. For example, if you are Arcane Aspect, you have the “Arcane Aspect” trait, and would respond to a “Expose Arcane Aspect” and take damage from a “5 Damage to Arcane Aspect”. Note that you do not have “[X]” on its own, for example if you are Arcane Aspect, you do not have the “Arcane” trait.

Each Aspect grants you access to several Skills. You may purchase a total of three Aspect Skills, regardless of how many Aspects you have. From your Aspect Skills you may only select one extra Attribute or Armor increasing ability. Otherwise, you may select two of the same Skills of other types from your different Aspects (e.g., you may only purchase one ‘Extra Attribute’, but two ‘Purge X’).

When you choose an Aspect you should also choose a single Trait which you feel represents your Aspect(s). Options include individual Traits from the Elemental, Physical, Mental and Metabolic trait groups. You can use this Trait with Aspect related skills that call for your ‘Chosen Aspect Trait.’

The only Trait not available for this selection is the ‘Weapon’ Trait.

Skill Name Cost Verbal Description
Extra Attribute 3 N/A You have an additional Attribute (Choose one attribute of your choice of either Prowess, Insight, or Fortitude).
Aspect Armaments 4 N/A You gain a special weapon. See details in Aspect Armament Skills section.
Blast Aspect 2 ‘Triple 3 Damage by <Trait>’ Once per event, when you take this skill choose melee, missile, or packet. The <Trait> is the Trait you chose when you selected your Aspect.
Unravel Magic 2 ‘Purge Will’ Once per event, you can Purge an effect that has the Will trait.
Invoke Aspect 2 … by Aspect Once per event, you can change the effect Trait of any non-per event Skill to the name of your Aspect (i.e., Spirit, Arcane, Shade, etc). This is an extra Thread Skill.
Tongue of Aspect* 2 ‘Speak to <Aspect>’ Once per Short Rest, you can use the ability ‘Speak to’ <Aspect> where aspect represents your aspect.
Aspect Fury 2 ‘Reduce’ Once per event, if you are affected by a ‘Frenzy’ effect, you can attack your enemies if there are enemies around, if there are no enemies around, you will then attack your allies.
Aspect Armor 3 N/A If your armor has clear detailing that shows your aspect (Faux Fur for beast, Fake plants for Plant, Celestial Star patterns for Shade, etc) treat the armor as being worth one additional point of armor. This point cannot take you over the maximum number of armor points your skills allow.
Enhanced Healing 2 N/A Once per event, when using a healing effect, you can increase the effect by 2 and change the effect to ‘By Aspect’. This effect is an extra Thread Skill.
Channel Aspect 2 ‘… By <Trait>’ When you use any beneficial skill, you may change the trait to ‘By <Trait>’. The <Trait> is the Trait you chose when you selected your Aspect.
Absorb Elements 3 N/A Once per Long Rest, when you are affected by your chosen Trait, you can instead say ‘Absorb to Heal 2’.

*Tongue of Aspect is purchased per Aspect. If you have multiple Aspects and want to use Tongue of Aspect for each one, you must purchase it separately for each Aspect. The normal limit on total Aspect skills still applies, so buying Tongue of Aspect for two different Aspects counts as two separate Aspect skill purchases.

Aspect Armament Skills

Aspect Armaments skills allow you to wield special weapons. These includes Claws, Elemental Armaments, Heritage Armaments, and others. These skills grant you the ability to wield weapons of this type. To wield two weapons in combat, either both Aspect Armaments or one Aspect Armament and one normal, you must have the Two Weapon skill. If you have the skill to wield a Buckler or Shield, you can wield an Aspect Armament and the Buckler or Shield. Certain Aspect Armaments allow you to have an Aspect Armament that is a Hafted weapon, Buckler or Shield. You must have the appropriate skill to wield these in battle. Each Aspect weapon grants the ability to resist certain attacks or perform certain effects due to the presence of the weapons.
