The World of Aeledd
The World of Aeledd
This book is intended to be an introduction to the world of Numina LARP and specifically the third major campaign arc, Numina III. It describes the world and its geography, history, nations, cultures, and religion.
Numina is set in the world of Aeledd (EYE-leth, /ˈaɪ.leð/). Previous Numina stories were focused on the island-nation of Rues and an earlier age. But the current campaign spans much of the world and is set in the Age of Works beginning in the year 123.
Fortune’s Bend
Throughout history there are legends of Fortune’s Bend - the home of heroes and the site of Death’s gate. Throughout the ages the town has been in many locations, and taken many shapes, but it is always a crossing point between the worlds of the living and the dead, and most importantly, it always draws heroes who shape history with their great deeds. Every appearance of Fortune’s Bend was called by that name at some point, but most are better known to history by other names – Avrillus, Sarrako, Hekatesh, and other names famed throughout history. The last time Fortune’s Bend appeared, on the island of Rues, it gathered heroes who restored cosmic forces to their true balance, stopped a divine conflict, and revealed to the world secrets it had long since forgotten. But that was almost three hundred years ago, and now Fortune’s Bend has appeared yet again. What heroes will it gather? And what adventure awaits them?
The Map is Not the Territory
One can look at the common maps of Aeledd and imagine that it is a civilized, settled place, neatly covered in nations and borders. Nothing could be further from the truth. Aeledd is a vast world. While most parts are claimed by one country or another, there are some large areas which are not easily accessible and have no thresholds to allow easy travel. Many areas, both within national borders and between them, are functionally wilderness. True cities are few and far between. Smaller settlements are more common, but away from roads and thresholds, much of the world is uninhabited and not fully known.
